Since 1961 the Schubert Society of Britain has organised instrumental and vocal recitals which are held nearly exclusively at the Lancaster Hall Hotel of the German YMCA in London. The latter has always supported the Schubert Society with funds, rooms and manpower. These live concerts are of the highest artistic standard. Their aim is to promote Franz Schubert’s music in a friendly atmosphere with a balance of some well-established artists and some at the beginning of their career. The repertoire is not always exclusively Schubert since Schubert himself played other composers at the original Schubertiades he held with his friends. For the social aspect there is always tea/coffee and biscuits or cake afterwards.
